Anyone for a big lunch?

INTEREST is soaring in the “Big Lunch” – and organisers are attributing this to the royal wedding.
This Sunday is the third annual “Big Lunch” day – an opportunity for friends and neighbours to get together, share food, experiences and conversation and generally get to know one another.
Nationally, more than twice as many events are taking place as last year – and in Warrington two “Big Lunches” are planned.
One will be at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, in Grammar School Road, Latchford, where borough council neighbourhood teams have been working with local churches and other groups to stage the event between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
There will be a free barbeque and five-a-side football tournament, volleyball, karaoke, street art and a chance to try beauty therapies.
The other event will be at Fearnhead Community Centre, Insall Road from 1pm and people attending are simply asked to take a dish to add to the buffet table. Various local groups are supporting the event, including the parish council.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture said: “The Big Lunch is an invitation for the whole community to get together to meet and share stories, experiences and food and I would definitely encourage as many people as possible to come along to one of these two events.”
Actress Lynda Bellingham, a campaign ambassador, said: “The royal wedding helped to bring street party get-togethers to the forefront and now street party fever seems to have gripped the nation. People are realising how much fun these types of events can be and how positive and long lasting the effects of getting to know their neighbours are.”
