TWO lambs have been born to the rare Herdwick sheep at Warrington’s Walton Park Zoo.
The Herdwick is native to the Lake District – although it is believed they may have been introduced to this country by the Vikings.
They are prized for their robust health, their ability to live solely on forage and their tendency to be territorial rather than straying away.
The new lambs arrival at Walton coincided with a week-long visit by pupils from Bridgewater High School, helping out in the zoo and park generally.
Picture shows the lambs with, from the left, Keira Willis aged 15, Anne-Marie Leishman aged 14, Richard Page aged 14, Molly Stone aged 15, zoo keeper Peter Cookson and Becky Ecob aged 15.
