Chemistry students aim high

STUDENTS studying Chemistry at Warrington’s Priestley College have put their knowledge to the test in a national competition aimed at stretching and challenging gifted teenagers.
The Chemistry Olympiad is a challenging two hour written test based on subject knowledge – and 11 of Priestley’s brightest students joined a cohort of more than 2,500 from around the country.
Priestley student Robin Brabham was among the select seven per cent who achieved a highly prestigious gold standard.
Robin’s recent achievement followed on from his success in the Physics version of the same Olympiad where he landed a silver award at the beginning of the year.
Other students to enjoy a level of success in the event included; Sade Bate, Thomas Brown, Tanitia Dooley, Bradley Hall, Jack Hines, Lorna O’Farrell, Daniel Poole, Amy Vinton and Sam Whiteford.
Science tutor Wendy Winnard said: “It was really pleasing for the students to be involved in such a highbrow event which tests their knowledge of Chemistry.
“Robin’s gold award in this challenge, alongside his achievements in Physics, should be given a great deal of recognition as it is certainly no mean feat.”
