Soccer club's new goal!

WORK has started on helping create a new “Centre of Footballing Excellence” in Warrington based at Cantilever Park – the home of Warrington Town FC.
The Mayor of Warrington Cllr John Joyce was on hand to help celebrate the launch of works on a two new all weather pitches at the ground, thanks to a £50,000 grant from landfill charity, Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN).
The donation has been match funded by the club and various local community groups and businesses across the town including Birchwood based DV8 design, who kindly donated their time to help secure planning permission for the project.
The Mayor was joined by various other club sponsors and Vice Presidents at a special launch event to signal start of works on the all-weather pitch which should be up and running in time for the school summer holidays.
Meanwhile the club, through its new Academy, has appointed its first full-time community development officer, first team Coach James Standing, who is also helping run a highly successful apprenticeship scheme down at the club, helping create work experience and training qualifications for 14 youngsters aged between 16-18, who are out of full time education and without employment.
Club Chairman Gary Skentelbery said: “These are very exciting times down at Warrington Town Football Club.
“We have spent the past few seasons consolidating and improving our facilities and the new all weather pitches and the apprenticeship scheme should help us kick on to the next level.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the local business community and especially WREN for their fantastic support.
“We are now looking for the whole town to get behind us as we endeavour to deliver of Centre of Footballing Excellence for Warrington.”
The club is continually adding to its impressive list of sponsors with local college Warrington Collegiate and bus company Network Warrington signing up for the third consecutive year, who have now been joined by United Utilities as a new community sponsor.
