ORFORD’S annual walking day will have a real carnival atmosphere this year with a New Orleans style brass band leading the walk. Participants will have a real festive spirit and will be joining in with fancy dress.
On Sunday June 19 the two mile walk will be kicking off at 12.10pm from School Road and will be finishing at William Beamont High School. People wanting to take part but walk a shorter distance can take an alternate route at Hilden Island.
Everyone is welcome to take part and a good turn out is expected. Groups are already set to attend including local church, Scout, Girl Guide and Mums and tots groups.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: “We are delighted to be organising Orford walking day and festival for the first time this year. It’s going to be a fantastic day out for all the family and a real celebration of the local community. I would encourage everyone in the area to take part and enjoy an event with a real carnival atmosphere that offers something for everyone.”
Also taking place is Orford Park Festival at William Beamont High School, this will have a variety of entertainment including live music, Chadwick’s Fair, community stalls and tombola’s, sports and games, dance performances, body art, graffiti and fashion and bag design.
Anyone interested in taking part in the walk should contact Steve Murphy on 01925 241360 or 07917 721294.

I have nothing against New Orleans type music. However, I thought Orford Walking Day was a religious statement by the Churches in that area. Or have I got that wrong! Certainly I would have thought that the “Carnival Atmosphere” was inappropriate.
