A SPECIAL event to celebrate the London 2012 Games is being held in Warrington and people are being invited to join in.
As part of the build up to the games a “Running Rings” activity morning is being held on Saturday at Risley Moss Local Nature Reserve.
The Mersey Forest, Warrington Borough Council and local running club Spectrum Striders are inviting everyone to join in. People can walk or run anything from a couple of hundred metres to a mile, with the option to receive a time and a certificate.
The event sees the launch of The Mersey Forest’s Running Rings project to create a series of circular routes in local community woodlands to help people get active and enjoy nature. The concept has been awarded official London 2012 “Inspire” Status, with Risley Moss the first Running Ring to be unveiled.
Paul Nolan, Mersey Forest director, said: “Risley Moss is a beautiful place to visit, so we’d encourage people to come along on Saturday for some fresh air and exercise, all at their own pace. The nature reserve is the first Running Rings site to be launched, with six more on the way across Merseyside and Cheshire, so it should be an exciting morning.”
Borough council representative Angus Lord said: “It’s a great achievement to get the official London 2012 ‘Inspire’ mark for Risley Moss. It’s already a well-loved site for many people, but if you’ve never been, why not pay a visit this weekend and see what you’ve been missing out on.”
Anyone interested in joining Saturday’s event should turn up between 9.30am and 11.30am at the Visitor Centre at Risley Moss, Ordnance Avenue, Birchwood.
