Wizards lose again!

WARRINGTON Wizards lost their third consecutive league game as they went down 6-28 against Dewsbury Celtic in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards were in contention at the break but a strong second half showing from Dewsbury saw them pull away and gain a richly deserved victory that keeps them on top of the league table with a 100% record.
Celtic opened the scoring in the third minute when prop forward Elliott Smith powered through the Wizards defence to crash over for an unconverted try but the Wizards replied twenty minutes later when a move started by substitute Scott Davidson saw the ball swept through several pairs of hands before finding loose forward Alan Reddecliff who raced over. Hooker Warren Ayres landed the conversion to put his side ahead for the one and only time.
Twelve minutes before the break a handling error on their own line by the Wizards proved very costly as Dewsbury stand off Josh West swooped on the loose ball to score under the posts. Scrum half Niki Crabtree goaled to give the visitors a narrow 10-6 half time lead.
Five minutes into the second half Celtic increased their advantage when substitute Joe Waters sold a dummy to the Wizards defence and stepped through the gap he created to score and then nine minutes later excellent prop forward Alex Walmsley used his strength to push his way over the line and twist in the tackle to touchdown. Crabtree converted on both occasions to put Dewsbury in command at 22-6.
The Wizards were temporarily reduced to twelve men on the hour when prop forward Wez Lawton was sin binned for dissent on the hour and whilst he was off the field Celtic took advantage of the extra man when second row Liam Walmsley broke through the Wizards defence to score under the posts. Crabtree’s conversion proved to be the last scoring act of the afternoon as Celtic claimed an impressive 28-6 victory.
Best for the Wizards were Carl Lloyd, Hayden James and Troy Brophy.
