IT’S real nappy week – and Warrington Borough Council is urging residents to consider the benefits of using real nappies rather than disposale ones.
As well as costing less, they are also good for babies’ skin and much better for the environment.
A council spokeswoman said: “There are loads of reasons that cotton nappies are a great alternative to disposable ones:
“They can save you approximately £500 from birth to potty training, babies wearing cotton nappies are generally potty-trained 6-12 months earlier than those in disposables and they’re naturally absorbent, naturally breathable and excellent for babies with skin conditions.
“They’re reliable, easy to use and wash at just 40-60ºC.
“They’re better for the environment. Disposable nappies take over 500 years to decompose in landfill, and use significantly more energy and non renewable resources to produce.”
The council is suggesting that even if some mothers don’t want to switch to real nappies all the time, they should consider trying them part of the time – perhaps during the day and using disposable just at night.

Good to see WBC showing their usual regard for proven facts!
The Daily Fail article? Was certainly not proven facts, outdated and deliberatley misleading. The report in question has been superseded and by the governments own admission was inaccurate. http://www.goreal.org.uk/news/index/view/id/199
