WARRINGTON’S bid to host part of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup has been delivered to RFL headquarters in Leeds by Wolves’ mascot Wolfie and a team of children from the town’s amateur clubs.
The borough council, Wolves and other organisations across the borough, have been working together for several weeks to pull the bid together. A successful e-campaign was launched calling on everyone to show their support 
for the bid which has now seen more than 1,500 people sign up.
Ahead of the trip to Leeds, the Mayor, Cllr John Joyce, Wolfie together with key bid partners and local children met in front of the town hall, and the Mayor handed over the Warrington bid document to the junior rugby players for safe delivery to the RFL.
On arrival in Leeds Jon Dutton, Rugby League World Cup host cities manager, officially accepted the handover of the bid.
Jan Souness, chairman of Warrington’s bid consortium, Warrington Borough Council, said: “We are really proud of the completed bid we have submitted after a real team effort and lots of hard work. We would like to thank everyone in Warrington for their support too, which has made a real difference.
“It would be a really tremendous boost for the whole town if we are successful in our bid to become a host city for the Rugby League World Cup 2013 and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on our progress.”
Andy Gatcliffe, chief executive of Warrington Wolves, said: “Warrington Wolves together with the whole of the Warrington community are ‘ready and waiting’ to give a ‘warm welcome’ to the worldwide Rugby League community knowing that we have a template Rugby League stadium and borough with so much to offer.”
