Praise from the stage

WARRINGTON-based Centenary Theatre Company got some unexpected praise from the stage at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Grimethorpe Colliery Band – who shot to fame in 1995 when they appeared in the film “Brassed Off” alongside Warrington-born actor Pete Postlethwaite (pictured) – were giving a sell-out performance of popular brass band favourites.
Musical director Brian Grant took the opportunity to congratulate Centenary on their own performance of “Brassed Off” earlier this year, which they dedicated to Pete, following his tragic death.
He then went on to dedicate their rendition of Cwmm Rhonda, Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) – the piece they played at Pete’s memorial service – to Centenary Theatre Company.
Centenary have been performing in Warrington and its surrounding areas for more than 100 years and company chairman Dan Grimes said: ”It was a great privilege to be congratulated by Grimethorpe Colliery Band who we have been keen supporters of since our first production of ‘Brassed Off’ in 2006”
Centenary’s latest production, Sweet Charity, opens on Tuesday May 24 and runs to Saturday May 28 at the Brindley Theatre in Runcorn. Tickets are available from the box office on 0151 907 8360.
