A BENEFIT cheat who adopted a false identity to fraudulently claim more than £7,000 at Warrington has been handed a suspected jail sentence and ordered to repay the money.
Fay Franklin, 42, of Withington, Manchester, was overpaid housing benefit and council tax benefit from Warrington Borough Council through the deception.
Franklin pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court to benefit fraud.
She was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, placed under a two year supervision order and ordered to repay the money.
The court was told the woman owned a house in Densham Avenue, Longford, Warrington.
Using the false name of Jay Franklin, she obtained benefit totalling £7,068.
After the hearing, Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits Mmnager, said:
“Many people assume that benefit theft applies only to those who are working for ‘cash in hand’ whilst claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. This is not the case. All benefit theft is a crime.”
