£550,000 boost for pothole repairs

A HALF million pound boost has been given to Warrington to tackle problem potholes in the town.
Warrington Borough Council has received £550,000 from the Department for Transport – part of the £200 million fund confirmed in the budget by the Chancellor George Osborne.
David Boyer, assistant director for transport, engineering and climate change at the council, said: “We welcome any additional funding to help us repair damaged roads.
“Like many other councils across the country we have seen a steep rise in the number of potholes as a result of two severe winters. We know that good road surfaces are essential to highway safety, and manage the resources we have as effectively as we can.”
Officers say the borough’s road are fully inspected but, because there are hundreds of miles of highways to maintain, they appreciate residents reporting problem areas. This can be done by calling the Customer Contact Centre on 01925 443322 or online via the “say it” section of www.warrington.gov.uk
Warrington South MP David Mowat said: “I’m delighted that Warrington has been awarded a share of this money. We certainly need it. The borough’s roads have been hit hard by two harsh winters and they badly need some relief.
“I was delighted the Chancellor and the Transport Secretary recognised this in the Budget and doubled the size of the fund available. The council and I lobbied hard for a share of these funds and I hope that we will soon see the benefits.”
Mr Mowat was concerned about potholes in Warrington even before he became an MP.
He even went out and repaired one himself, after receiving a complaint from a resident.

  1. Are the council going to bother repairing any of the roads in Penketh this time? The temporary patch ups they performed 12-18 mths ago have already failed and Meeting Lane in particular looks like its been ploughed.
