College rewards good attenders

GOOD attendance was rewarded at an awards ceremony at Priestley College, Warrington.
Almost 800 students, who had at least 95 per cent attendance during the first four months of the academic year, were invited. Of those almost 200 has a 100 per cent attendance record.
The students took part in a prize draw to win gifts that included high street vouchers, a kindle reader, mp3 players and digital cameras that had been chosen by the college council.
Attendance is a key focus at the college, and staff say there is a strong correlation between this and individuals who go on to earn top examination grades.
Head of performance management Jan Costello said: “It was really pleasing to see so many students who were eligible for these prize draws after showing an excellent commitment to their studies.
“At a time when a number of key examinations have been taking place, it is no surprise that those students with top marks for attendance usually go on to get the very best grades.”

  1. Sounds like bribery to me. Where is the money coming from to supply those prizes? When I was at school and college, it was expected that the majority would attend other than for illness, it was never an option.

  2. I cant get a bus on sunday on

………….”Attendance is a key focus at the college, and staff say there is a strong correlation between this and individuals who go on to earn top examination grades”……….. so you have to turn up to learn stuff??? No s**t Sherlock, no wonder you are head of performance management Jan. When I went, I went because I wanted to learn and get a proper job instead of patronising kids by working in a college doing a non-job. Maybe you should try it sometime
