MEMBERS of the audience watching comedian Sarah Millican at Warrington’s Parr Hall were surprised to get a going home bonus.
More than 300 people received a free book from the staff at Warrington Library as part of World Book Night.
Rugby fans at a Warrington Wolves match were also given free books.
The giveaway was part of the special night devised to celebrate books and reading, which saw one million books given away by 20,000 passionate readers to other members of the public across the UK and Ireland.
All the books were chosen at the recommendation of authors, publishers and book-sellers.
Bob Timmis, executive member for leisure and skills at Warrington Borough Council, said: “I am delighted we are supporting this unique initiative. It’s a wonderful way to spread the joy a good book can bring.
“The idea of a book giveaway is a fantastic and simple way to engage people in reading.”
