WORK will start this spring on replacing the oldest, most inefficient street lights in Warrington, council leader Ian Marks told the borough council.
The council’s street lighting team has won a £400,000 interest free loan from the social enterprise organisation Salix Energy Efficiency Finance to fund the work, which should be completed by the autumn.
The new lights will provide improved lighting levels but also achieve savings.
Estimated energy savings will about to about £79,000 a year and there should also be carbon savings of about 430 tonnes a year.
Cllr Marks said: “We are currently planning the work programme and will inform all ward councillors if lights in their areas are going to be replaced. We are targeting the oldest least efficient lamps, so not all wards in Warrington will be affected.”
In total, Warrington has successfully obtained over £800,000 of funding for energy efficient street-lighting improvements over the past year.

Most laudable, if figures can be believed.
How about some more efficiency savings & turn the lights off on Culcheth astroturf when no one is using it , that should save a few quid & tonnes of carbon at just the flick of a switch !
