POLICE are hunting a gang of four men who raided a Warrington store, armed with baseball bats and a hammer.
The raiders burst into Farmfoods, on School Brow, threatened staff and made off with a quantity of cash.
It is believed the gang gained entry by reversing a car into shutters at the rear of the building.
The raid took place at about 6.15pm last night (Wednesday) as two members of staff were cashing up.
They heard a loud bang and the four men then burst into the store and demanded cash.
The gang took the money, ran out of the store and got into a silver car which sped off towards Manchester Road and Winwick Road.
No one was injured but the two members of staff were left badly shaken.
The raiders are believed to have used the same silver car and reverse into the shutters.
Detective Constable Darren Wright from Warrington CID said: “I am keen to speak to anyone that may have seen a silver car in the area prior to the robbery or driving away from the scene at speed afterwards.
“Fortunately no one was injured during the incident but these men need to be caught.”
The offenders were all wearing dark clothing, had their faces covered and were wearing gloves One of them was around 5ft 11in of slim build.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0845 458 0000 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

One wonders why the gates weren’t closed and locked and how they knew that they were cashing up?
One doesn’t..an inside job would not have been so dramatic as to use a car to force entry and 6.15 sounds about right for a 9am worker to finish their shift… coincidence? or good judgement…although I think good judgement would have been a 8pm raid to get a full days takings.
