Help at hand for dementia victims

HELP is at hand for 2,155 people in Warrington living with dementia.

Numbers of people in the UK suffering from dementia are increasing. For those suffering in Warrington, and their families, help is available from the Alzheimer’s Society.
A society spokesperson said: “Caring for a loved one with dementia can be a lonely, stressful experience. When people have been diagnosed with dementia they can often feel isolated and so can their carers.”
Its dementia services can help people living with dementia by providing much needed information, support and advice through a variety of services.
The society has two support groups running in Warrington, as well as two regular drop-in sessions.
The spokesperson said: “These provide an opportunity for both the carer and the cared for to meet with others who are living with dementia and to connect with people who understand what they are going through and feel the same. Just getting together to catch up over a cuppa can make all the difference.”
The evening group meets at Brampton Lodge Day Centre, Bridge Lane, Appleton, on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The café group meets at Holy Trinity Church, Market Gate, Warrington on the second Monday of the month, from 2pm to 4pm. The drop-in sessions take place at British Home Stores Restaurant, Golden Square, on the first Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12pm and in the foyer at Warrington Hospital on the third Wednesday of the month, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
The society runs its services and raises funds with the help of volunteers. Volunteers are needed, together with anyone with a knowledge of music who could help set up a Singing for the Brain Group.
Further information about services or volunteering is available by contacting the Warrington office on 01925 572239.
