Warning after fire rescue

FIRE chiefs have issued a stark warning following a dramatic rescue from a Warrington home.
People should not attempt to tackle fires themselves – they should get out.
Crews were called to the incident on Park Avenue in Latchford.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the property and found a fire involving a wood burner that had burnt through the timbers surrounding the hearth.
Watch manager Nick Holmes, from Stockton Heath Fire Station, said:”During an initial search of the property we found a man unconscious in one of the first floor rooms.
“We believe that he had been overcome by fumes from the smoke while trying to tackle the fire himself. We carried him to safety before battling with some very difficult circumstances to put out the fire.”
The man was then given oxygen therapy before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Watch manager Holmes added: “This incident could so easily have ended in tragedy. However well intentioned, it is so important for people not to try and deal with fires themselves. If a fire breaks out in your home you need to get out, stay out and call us out.”
