Road has become war zone

A TINY Warrington close has become a “war zone” – because of chronic parking problems.
Neighbours who are normally friends have turned against each other because they find it impossible to find anywhere to park, Appleton Parish Council was told.
Residents in Beverley Avenue, Appleton attended the council meeting for the second month in succession to plead for action to solve the problem.
They told councillors that 20 years ago there were only three cars in the then quiet close. Now there are 15 – with five at one house alone.
One resident said: “It’s like war zone. It is beyond a joke. Some people want to sell their houses and can’t because of the parking chaos.
“Some residents haven’t got a car and complain that others park outside their houses.”
The meeting was told that most houses in the close are rented from Golden Gates Housing Trust, although a few were owner-occupied.
Some cars were parked on pavements, some in a turning head and others in the road. At night, some residents had to park in the next street. Police have visited the scene on several occasions.
Councillors decided to visit the close of an evening to see the problem for themselves.
Residents undertook to organise a petition to send to Golden Gates Housing and police also agreed to look into the matter.

  1. I thought social housing, which is heavily subsidised by taxpayers, is to house those on the most modest of means, clearly that is not the case if those living in one of the homes on this road have five cars.

  2. Maybe the house with 5 cars is shared, could be flats, we don’t know so why make a comment like that Warr Eye 🙂 Looking at the picture they seem to have drives/front gardens so why don’t they all park in there ? Like already said what possible solution could there be and I’m sure the police can only do something if the cars are dangerously or illegally parked. Must be frustrating though but falling out with each other will only have made just matters worse. Wonder what the person/people with the 5 cars will think when they read this and find that they have been mentioned. Maybe they will buy another one 🙂

  3. Anyone can get social housing (I had one 5 years ago and earned 30k+)

its affordable housing, only subsidized where the tennant would be paying even more taxpayers money if it didnt exist to private landlords (ie people on benefits anyway) my rent was £450 a month…going rate at the time but for secured letting.

to the resident wo don’t have a car “SHUT UP, it doesnt concern you then does it as you don’t have parking prolems. nobody who lives in a road provided by the taxpayer has a right to say who can use it, if you don’t want somone to park in front of your house buy a private road”

Just been on google maps, and I cannot see a poblem with 25 cars fitting in that street, looks like complaints are all from one particular person….maybe with the support of the person without a car who are NIMBY NUTTERS…quotes…”Some residents haven’t got a car and complain that others park outside their houses. Some cars were parked on pavements, some in a turning head and others in the road. At night, some residents had to park in the next street”…..this is normal. I suspect the warzone exists purely becouse of the complainant…evict him/her

  4. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist for this one. Take a look on Google maps and you see that other than a couple of houses right at the start of the road, nobody has a driveway to put a car on. Secondly half the road seems to have no vehicular access due to stumps and a grassed over area. Other than that, fifteen cars isn’t excessive for that many houses these days.

  5. I think I am the person who is alleged to have 5 cars (we actually have 4) I own number 4 and 6 so I have two drives and dont need to park on the road – we have lived in the Drive for some 17 years. Our children are now of drinving age as are their friends and other visitors and this does increase the traffic. The best way to solve this issue is to be tolerant and understanding and work with each other maximise the parking options. Calling this quiet Avenue a war zone is not going to help anyone selll their homes – BH

  6. If I am the person alleged to have 5 cars then you can relax I own my home – I am not a scrounger. Most of the houses in the Drive are privately owned now – most purchased direct from the Councii no doubt at at good prices (not mine) – note the reference to people wanting to sell them !

  7. Why dont the council bulid an underground carpark – it could double as a air raid shelter for the war zone – why dont that 5 care bloke get tank and sort the lot out – sounds like a looney bin to me
