Hundreds visit new police centre

HUNDREDS of people visited a new Warrington town centre police hub in the first month since it opened.
More than 300 people have called at the new community police base seeking advice and support on policing issues, talking to neighbourhood officers and to report stolen property.
Inspector Neil Drum said: “Since opening the ‘police post’ last month we have had a fantastic response from members of the public.
“The community facility provides access to a range of advice and support and certain types of assistance relating to policing services.”
Officers from Warrington Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Unit have taken over an empty shop next to the “skittles” at Market Gate, to help strengthen links with those who live, work and visit the town centre.
Inspector Drum said: “It is in an ideal spot – a busy, easy-to-reach location – and is part of a drive to further improve links with the local community, to further reduce crime in the town centre and to offer reassurance to shoppers and local businesses.”
The base is open Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
Inspector Drum said: “We would encourage anyone who lives, works or is visiting Warrington town centre to stop off at the ‘police post’.
“A local officer will be on hand to have a chat, offer any advice or support relating to any policing issues and to give out valuable advice on a variety of issues including security in the home and personal safety advice.”
