Open Door's 20-year success story

A VOLUNTARY group which provides some Christmas cheer for the homeless and vulnerable has revealed that its 20th year in operation was one of the most successful yet.
WODAC, Warrington Open Door at Christmas, was open at St John’s United Reformed Church, Wilderspool Causeway, from December 25 until January 3.
They served more than 275 cooked meals over the festive season, hot drinks and breakfasts.
They also provided accommodation with a warm, safe and friendly atmosphere for socialising, playing games and watching TV
People who were elderly and alone, homeless, sleeping rough or who had no family were among those attending.
Organiser John Campbell said the service had been particularly important this winter because of the severe weather over the Christmas and New Year period.
He added: “The WODAC Committee are extremely grateful for the generous support given by Marks and Spencers, Waterfields bakers and Wards butchers, of Stockton Heath, among many other local businesses and most especially to the people of the districts of Warrington who donated so freely.”
WODAC is entirely volunteer run and totally funded by contributions from generous well wishers and local businesses who provided food, clothing and services.
