WARRINGTON-based Centenary Theatre Company are to dedicate their next production to the memory of locally-born actor Pete Postlethwaite.
The play “Brassed Off” will be staged at the Brindley Theatre, Runcorn from February 7-12.
Pete, (pictured) who died on January 2, famously played the part of bandleader Danny Ormondroyd in the screen version of the play, alongside Ewan MacGregor and Tara Fitzgerald.
Centenary member Mike Hall, from Great Sankey, will be playing the part of Danny in the Centenary production.
He said: “It is the second time that I have played the role of Danny on stage and he is a really interesting character. Obviously Pete’s performance on screen was incredibly memorable and very moving. I went to school with Pete and know his family so I am very proud that I can pay some small tribute to his memory in this way. He will be greatly missed.”
A spokesperson for Centenary said that “Pete Postlethwaite was a great inspiration to many of our members, particularly since he himself started his acting career in Warrington and has family members who are involved within Centenary.
“His work and dedication to the art made him a perfect role model for all young actors hailing from Warrington in the future, particularly as he never forgot his roots. Centenary are honoured to be able to dedicate their production of ‘Brassed Off’ to Pete. We send our condolences to all of his family and friends.”
Fresh from their success with Titanic the Musical last November, the cast have been busy rehearsing for the play since November alongside Tarporley Silver Band’ who are also working on the production.
