POLICE at Warrington are thanking the public following an “extremely positive” response to an appeal on Crimewatch for information on a local burglary.
Detectives travelled to London to launch the appeal on television last night (Tuesday) following a violent crime in Warrington.
Detective Sergeant David Hutcheon and Detective Constable Tina Jackson joined officers from Merseyside Police in the studio to ask the public to help identify those responsible for an attack upon a Warrington man in his own home.
The response from the public was described as “extremely positive,” with a significant number of calls made to the Crimewatch Incident room. These included some very positive leads where potential offenders were named. Enquiries are ongoing today, following up on the information offered.
Early today DS Hutcheon said, “The Crimewatch reconstruction was extremely effective. It clearly indicated the excessive violence used to threaten the victim in his own home, the ordeal he went through, and the callous disregard of the offenders to anything other than material gain.
“The reconstruction made it real to the public how important it is that these dangerous men are identified and brought to justice, and the calls flooded in. In particular, I would like to thank the victim for having the courage to relive the dreadful ordeal he was put through back in September.”
The offence took place around 9 pm on the September 27. The 44-years-old victim, who lives in Delph Lane, Houghton Green, was confronted by three masked men in his home, who threatened him, assaulted him with pick axe handles, poured boiling water on him, and threatened to kill his pet dog. The offenders left after stealing cash and other property.
The victim received injuries which required hospital attention.
Police at Warrington investigating the incident, are working alongside Merseyside Police, looking at the possibility of a linked offence.
