POLICE are searching for a hard-hearted woman who stole cash from a 73-year-old man in Warrington town centre.
They have issued a CCTV picture of her in the hope someone will recognise her.
The victim withdrew money from the Halifax on Buttermarket Street at around 11.20am on Friday, November 26.
As he left the bank and headed towards Bridge Street, a woman walked over and asked him to go with her to the British Heart Foundation Charity Shop.
She told him he was the same size as her father and she wanted to see if a coat would fit him.
He agreed – but after helping the woman and making his way home, realised his money had been taken from his pocket.
The offender had walked away down Bank Street towards the market.
Police say the woman is aged 25-30, wearing a dark coloured leather looking coat with a pink top underneath, blue jeans with rips in them and a dark woollen peak cap. She was carrying a dark coloured satchel and spoke with a foreign accent.
She is believed to have been working with two other women. One of them was wearing a brown coat, jeans and black boots and was aged older than the first. The second woman was wearing a brown body warmer with a white top underneath, dark coloured jeans and white trousers.
PC Tim Froggatt said: “This woman preyed on the kindness of a vulnerable man and stole his money.
“This is a despicable crime and I would urge anyone who recognises the women in the picture to call police so we can make sure no one else becomes a victim to their callous scam.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0845 458 0000 or the independent Crimestoppers hot line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
