Music for all – nearly!

MUSIC from the Middle Age, the great classics, gifted youngsters, modern jazz – Live at St Wilfrid’s at Grappenhall has arranged a programme to appeal to many tastes this year.
The monthly concerts at St Wilfrid’s Church in Grappenhall Village start on a high with locally raised international pianist Stephen Hough playing Beethoven, Janacek, Scriabin and Liszt on January 29.
On February 17, the Barbirolli string quartet will play Beethoven, Bridge and Delius. And on March 10 there will be music from some of the winners of the internationally fames Haverhill Sinfonia competition.
On April 16, Lucille Burns (flute) and Victoria Davies (harp) will present a sensitive programme of music by Handel, Faure and Piazzolla.
May 7 sees the annual visit by students from the Chetham’s School of Music, giving an opportunity to see the stars of the future in action. June 16 will see the Manchester Camerata Brass Ensemble playing music from 1500 to the present day.
The pianist James Lisney makes a return visit on September 22 with a programme of works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann and Chopin. On October 15 there will be a visit by the Kinder Choir of High Peak, senior children’s choir winners at the Llangollen Eisteddfod.
Live at St Wilfrid’s end their year on November 17 with a rare excursion into the jazz world with a second visit by 6Pack and vocalist Alice Zadwaski.
All the concerts start at 7.30pm.
