125 new homes planned

DETAILED plans for 125 new homes on the site of the former G&J Greenall’s distillery are due to come before Warrington planners.
Bellway Homes are seeking approval of the proposals, which include an area of public green space and other landscaping.
Seventeen of the properties would be made available for social rent and a mix of three and four bed mews, semis and detached houses are proposed – all at two-storey height.
They would be accessed via a tree-lined boulevard from Loushers Lane.
But there would also be pedestrian access points onto Loushers Lane and Wilderspool Causeway, plus a link to the existing footpath network in Black Bear Park.
Outline planning consent for residential development was granted in February 2008, together with proposals for a care home for the elderly and conversion of listed buildings in China Lane for residential use.
These parts of the development will be the subject of separate planning applications in the near future.
There is opposition to the scheme.
Cllr Ted Finnegan (right) is objecting because of a loss of residential amenity both for the future residents of the new properties and existing nearby residents.
He says the distance between the new properties and houses in Stafford Road is unacceptable.
Ten residents objected on the grounds of loss of trees, loss of privacy, proximity to existing houses and parking problems.
Nearby road construction firm Colas have also expressed concern about the closeness of houses to a 24-hour industrial plant.
But planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.

  1. No point in objecting as it will be passed anyway otherwise the land will just remain empty and inaccessible for more years to come. Makes a change for new houses to be 2 storey homes rather than the tall skinny type so that’s something I suppose. Traffic wise… well it’s so bad already with Wilderspool often at a standstill that we’ll probebly not notice any difference. As for the care home one is currently already being built nearby so is there any need for a second one ? Hope the lovely China Lane listed cottages are still within ‘repair’ as they have been left boarded up and abandoned by the council for so many years by the council that I have a bad feeling about those. :(What’s a four bed news by the way 🙂

  2. This councillor always objects to everything.(He hopes it might get him a couple of sympathy votes). It’s good to see that at last something is happening.

  3. Think you are getting confused with Walton Locks there Silver Surfer…… next bridge along is where the greenalls site is although both are on the ‘grotty’ northern side of the canal 🙂 Has anyone from the ‘posh’ Lower Walton area been down Gainsborough road lately…. goodness me what a shocker 🙂

  4. Who does? I live there and we say we live in Warrington as it states on our postal address, not Lower Walton. I don’t think you’ll find anyone here thinking they are ‘posh’!

  5. …and I think you will find that Silver Lady is actually correct…. it’s not classed as Latchford. ‘Wilderspool’ sometimes but more often that not JUST Warringon

  6. I was only kidding actually… it looks abdolutely lovely as it does this time every year . All the houses are decorated with lovely xmas lights and beautiful outdoor displays. Really nice …. It was only a shocker as it made me realise how close xmas is 🙂

  7. Nor will you find many people who live in Lower Walton thinking they are posh either… well the new ones moving in might think that but they will have a shock 🙂

  8. As you are suggesting, Silver Surfer, our political ward is Latchford West and we are in the parish of St James, Latchford. It really makes no difference, we love living here, it’s so convenient for everything and our neighbours are great, but being pedantic, as I said before, ‘Latchford’ does not appear on our postal address!
