Four writers in regional contest

STORIES set in places ranging from Ancient Egypt to Victorian workhouses were submitted in a writing competition.
And four Warrington writers have been chosen to go forward to the regional heats of the Flashback Fiction competition. They are Megan Blair, Andy Bett, Joel Davies and Elara Leatherbarrow.
The competition, open to anyone in the North West, was launched in May. Entrants had to tell a historical tale in no more than 500 words and submit their entry on-line.
More than 250 entered covering a range of eras. Some created their own characters and some brought real historical figures to life.
It was run as part of Pages Ago, a promotion of history reading, launched in public libraries and historic venues across the region. Warrington entries were chosen locally.
The regional competition will be judged by Professor Patricia Duncker, a novelist and professor of Contemporary Literature at the University of Manchester, and the winner will be announced next month.
