£750,000 facelift for school

COUNCIL leaders at Warrington have appointed a contractor to carry out a £750,000 facelift at a primary school in one of the most under-privileged areas of the borough.
The work will be carried out at Oakwood Avenue Primary over the next two years in line with proposals development in collaboration with the school over the last 12 months.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, (pictured) the borough council’s executive members for education and young people said: “The school buildings are in a very poor state and it is in an area of high deprivation.
“But there is a sustainable number of pupils.
“This is very good news for the area because it will give the school much better buildings.”
The work at the school will involve a number of elements which involve making good use of existing assets while significantly improving the internal organisation of the school and the layout of facilities on the site, including improved access.
Money is available in the council’s primary school capital programme.
Coun Bob Barr, executive member for planning and regeneration said the scheme was in line with the council’s aim to reduce the gap between the affluent and deprived areas of the borough.
