Kick violence into touch!

RUGBY League players have joined forces with council chiefs in Warrington in a campaign against domestic abuse.
Warrington Wolves, Widnes Vikings and Warrington and Halton councils are involved in a drive to raise awareness of the problem locally.
Mainly aimed at men and boys, the “white ribbon” campaign encourages them to pledge that they will never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
People in Warrington are being invited to wear a ribbon which represents challenging the acceptability of domestic abuse and helping all victims to break their silence and speak out against violence and abuse in the home. All funds raised are directed back into the Warrington Domestic Abuse Forum (WDAF) for preventative projects in the borough.
The campaign is part of an ongoing effort to challenge the acceptance of male violence towards women and girls. It also raises funds for preventative projects.
Councillor Liz Smith, the borough council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and communities said: “This council is committed to working hard with our partners out in the communities of Warrington to reduce this problem. Domestic abuse against women is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Men and women in the area can show their support of this message by buying and wearing a white ribbon this month, and I hope many do so.”
The Warrington campaign runs from November 25 (Elimination of Violence Against Women Day) until December 10 (Human Rights Day).
White ribbons are available to purchase from receptions of the town hall and New Town House, Buttermarket Street.
Anyone experiencing domestic abuse can speak in confidence to the Warrington Domestic Abuse Support Service on 01925 418 430 or visit www.warrington.gov.uk/domesticabuse for further information.
