Council to seek new school funding

A DELEGATION from Warrington is travelling to London later this month to press for capital funding for schools, following the axing of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
The cross party delegation with consist of borough council leader Ian Marks, the town’s two MPs, Helen Jones and David Mowat, the council’s director of children’s services, Kath O’Dwyer and assets manager Hilary Smith.
The heads of four Warrington high schools – Sir Thomas Boteler CE, Penketh, William Beamont and Lysander – have also been invited to joing the party.
The meeting on November 25 has been arranged by Mr Mowat to discuss capital funding for schools following the scrapping of BSF.
Coun Marks said: “We will be putting a forceful case for ongoing investment in our schools.
“One of the positive aspects of the Comprehensive Spending review is a commitment to capital spending by the Government and I know we could build schools here much more cost effectively than would have been possible under the cumbersome BSF process.”
