WARRINGTON is to host a groundbreaking event designed to encourage young people to uncover their hidden talents, learn new skills and fulfill their real potential in the jobs market.
“Get Sorted” is the first skills and talent event of its kind to be staged in the area and will be held over six days during this month’s half term from October 25-30.
It is being aimed at young people aged 14-21 to highlight the wide range of pathways through which they can uncover, develop and transfer their strengths into the jobs market.
Based at Golden Square Shopping Centre, the week will feature a wide range of regularly-changing exhibitors, each showcasing a different local career opportunity.
There will also be lots of interactive activities to help inspire people to find their talent or skills.
These will include paintballing and a climbing wall from the British Army, a chance to DJ and become a radio presenter as well as be photographed with Warrington Wolves’ Challenge Cup and enjoy some performances from the Warrington Wolves Fusion dance team.
Connexions and Job Centre Plus will be on hand to offer advice and opportunities for work experience and interview skills.
Other businesses taking part throughout the week include Royal Navy, Virgin Rail, New Look, Pulse Model Management, Warrington Borough Council, De Vere Daresbury, The Volunteer Centre, Orford Park Project and Warrington Collegiate.
Golden Square marketing manager Ian Cox said: “This is fantastic opportunity to invest in our young people and help them gain knowledge, build confidence and aspire to a successful and fulfilling future.”
In the run-up to the Get Sorted information week, a team from Golden Square visited Lysander High School at Padgate to share their own career progression and encourage more than 100 Year 9 and Year 10 students to raise the bar on their career aspirations.
