A FUN day for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s neonatal unit raised £1,500.
The event, at Callands Primary School, raised £1,150 which was boosted to the total with a donation from the National Grid.
There was a special treat for RL enthusiasts as Warrington Wolves’ mascot Wolfie dropped in with the Carnegie Challenge Cup. Delighted fans queued to have their picture taken holding the cup.
The day is an annual reunion for former patients, their families and staff on the unit. Money raised will buy breast pumps and parent diaries, which allow parents to record their feelings and daily experiences on the unit.
Debbie Yates, senior nurse practitioner, said: “It was lovely to see so many past patients and their families turn out to support the unit. The Challenge Cup was a hit and Wolfie was a winner with his cuddles.
“I am really pleased with the amount we raised and it will go to benefiting future patient’s families.”
Each year the unit looks after more than 400 babies, offering a range of care levels including three intensive care cots. It also includes a quiet breastfeeding room, a rest room for parents away from the unit and visiting time is unrestricted to allow parents to bond with their babies.
