RESIDENTS are being warned of road closures which will be in place when the second New Balance English Half Marathon takes place in Warrington on Sunday October 3.
The race will again start and finish in Victoria Park and in order to stage the event, organisers may need to restrict access to some areas of it during the lead up to and on the big day.
On the morning of the race, roads in the south of the borough will begin to close from 5am onwards and a number of road diversions will be in place to keep traffic moving.
Emergency access will be maintained for the duration of the event and local and urgent access will be maintained wherever possible.
Yellow traffic signs are now out on affected routes for the information of road users. Residents are warned to keep the closures and diversions in mind if planning to travel on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile the Regimental Sunday event in the town centre is also on Sunday October 3 should not be affected but any one planning on attending this event please allow a little extra time to travel.
Mike James, race director from Big-Q Events said: “Following feedback received last year from runners and residents the course has been slightly altered and closed roads will reopen on a rolling programme to speed this process up and hopefully to minimise disruption to residents and road users.
“We have been and continue to work with the council, police, ambulance and the fire services on road closures and diversions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for runners, spectators and local residents.”
Security and stewarding is being provided by Warrington based Akme Security UK Ltd.
Residents experiencing any difficulties or with any questions on race day please ring 08701 242 009.
Please note this number is only operational on Sunday October 3.
