Town to be docked three points!

WARRINGTON Town FC are set to be docked three points after fielding an unregistered player during their victory at Ossett Albion on the opening day of the season.
The Northern Premier League board of directors took the decision to deduct the points after Warrington admitted inadvertently fielding an unregistered player.
Warrington brought on Connor Anderson as a 78th minute substitute in their 3-1 win at Ossett and have been fined £100 with the three points gained in the game automatically deducted from their playing record as per League Rules.
Warrington will not be the only team to be docked points following an administrative error.
Town Chief Executive Gary Skentelbery said: “We are obviously gutted at losing the three points after our best ever start to a league season for many a year.
“There was no intent to cheat or play someone who was not registered. It was purely down to an administrative error. It is obviously always a busy time of the season and there were seven registration forms which had to be logged with the league before the opening game.
“For some reason only four of these went through on the fax machine. Whether it was a technical error or human error at the end of the day it is our duty to check a player is registered and unfortunately this was not done.
“We had a lot going on at the club preparing for our biggest game in recent history against Chester, which included major improvements on the ground on top of all the other work involved in preparing for a new season.
“Everyone at our club is a volunteer working in their own time and while I don’t necessarily agree with the league’s decision we have to accept it and move on.
“It has happened to lots of clubs at some stage but we have now put procedures in place to ensure it doesn’t ever happen again at Warrington.
“We hope our supporters will be as understanding as possible and get behind the team and club officials. We are still undefeated and if we can carry on winning games hopefully the three points won’t detract too much at the end of the season.”
The points will not be removed from the league table until the club’s right to appeal has passed.
“Having thought long and hard about this we have decided not to appeal because although there were extreme mitigating circumstances the rules are very clear.
“We could have been fined a maximum of £500 but received the minimum £100 fine instead – so it is clear the league directors took on board the unique circumstances we faced at the time.”
