Keeping traffic on the move

KEEPING traffic on the move is one of the priorities for police as 40,000 people a day are expected to attend the Creamfields music festival at Daresbury this weekend.
Police are working closely with organisers and other groups such as the Highways Agency, Warrington Borough Council and emergency services, to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.
Sgt Rick Weaver, of the Cheshire Police Road Policing Unit, said: “There will be thousands of people coming into the area over the Bank Holiday weekend and this will once again test the traffic infrastructure to its limits, but we are confident that the plan that is in place addresses any potential issues.
“The traffic plan has been designed to ensure ticket holders can access and leave the site efficiently – by the most appropriate routes. It also aims to manage the likelihood of increased traffic in the area – for the benefit of local residents who will need to maintain access to their homes and businesses.”
Most festival goers will be heading to the site on Saturday between 7am and 6pm and leaving on Monday between 9am and 2pm.
At these times police expect some traffic congestion and local drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey. Congestion updates will be provided on local radio stations.
Festival goers are being advised to allow plenty of time for their journey. They are being urged to use junctions 11 and 12 of the M56 and to follow the designated routes as road closures will be in place. They are also being advised not to rely on their sat navs – as traffic signs will point them in the right direction as they get nearer to the site.
Drivers are also asked to ensure they follow signs for the right car park.
The North car park will be for day ticket holders only and anyone who is being dropped off or picked up for camping. Anyone parking and camping for the whole weekend should head for the South car park.
Festival goers are being encouraged to use public transport or the shuttle bus services running to the event from Liverpool, Manchester and Warrington. Further details are available on the official Creamfields 2010 website at www.creamfields.com
Local roads will have full and partial closures, but residents will be able to gain access to their homes at all times.
Full or partial closure will affect Daresbury Lane, Holly Hedge Lane, Hobb Lane, Old Chester Road, Park Lane, Pillmoss Lane, Warrington Road, Underbridge Lane and Hatton Lane.
