DOZENS of people entered into the fun of Lymm Festival’s annual Scarecrow Competition which this year had the theme of “The Good, Bad and the Ugly.”
Judges had a difficult decision to choose winners as standards were very high. They chose Gollum for the Gold First Prize, which was made by the Mundy family of Highfield Road.
A competition spokesperson said: “This fantastic interpretation of the good, bad and ugly character Gollum from Lord of the Rings is overlooked by the all seeing-eye as he is about to eat his supper!”
The scarecrow is made from papier-mâché on a wire frame, then painted and varnished. It was very popular with festival visitors.
The Silver Second Prize went to Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III made by the Leigh Family of Manor Road.
The spokesperson added: “A huge amount of enthusiasm has gone into the superb creation of these characters from the How to Train Your Dragon series of books by Cressida Cowell.
“The Viking Hiccup and his dragon Toothless are the heroes, the sea dragon in the hedge is Green Death the baddie and Hiccup’s archenemy is Alvin the Treacherous, who is pretty ugly as he has lost several parts of his anatomy in the adventures – so far he has lost a hand, a leg, all his hair, an eye and his nose! In fact, another baddie – non-fiction this time – made sure that Alvin lost his whole head on the night of the Food Fest!”
During the festival there was also a Scarecrow Trail Quiz where people had to guess the scarecrow titles. Prize Winners were Chloë Ellerton-Raines and Matthew George.
