TEN amateur Rugby League teams from across the town are competing for the Carlsberg Warrington Cup and the Alliance Cup.
This year sees the return of the Warrington Cup competition to a professional setting with Warrington Wolves hosting the final next month.
Bernie Lenihan, stadium manager at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, said: “The Warrington Cup is coming home.
“Due to Super League commitments the Wolves have been unable to host the event in recent years. But this year our work in the community will see us hosting schools tournaments and local amateur competitions.”
The main competition starts with the semi-finals on August 21. Current holders Bank Quay Bulls will start the defence against Woolston Rovers at Longshaw Street playing fields and Crosfields host Rylands Sharks at Hood Lane both to kick-off at 2.30 pm.
The winners will go through to the final on September 21.
The Carlsberg Alliance Cup is being played throughout this month with the final on August 24 at Rylands, kick-off 6.30 pm. Teams taking part are Rylands Sharks A and Rylands Sharks Under 18s, Crosfields A, Burtonwood Bridge, Latchford Albion and Bank Quay Under 18s.
