Last gasp draw for Town

WARRINGTON Town earned a creditable 2-2 draw thanks to a last gasp goal from Louis Corrigan against his former club, newly promoted Evo Stik premier league side Colwyn Bay in their final pre season friendly before the season kicks off on Saturday with a trip to Ossett Albion.
Both sides starting slowly, Bay winger Sam Bailey first to go close with a curling free kick that went narrowly wide of Paul Pritchard’s upright. Bay should have gone ahead mid way throught the half, when striker Karl Noone shot wide when through on goal, with only Pritchard to beat. Left winger Louis Corrigan (pictured right) was first to go close, his long range free kick being straight at Chris Sanna in the Bay goal. Bay should have gone ahead on 28 minutes when Pritchard managed to keep out Ian Sheridan’s effort from within the six yard box. Bay finally took the lead in the 32nd minutes, when Sheridan finished well at the near post after a fine jinking solo effort into the Town penalty area. Town looked to get back into the game before half time and Mike Tomlinson was only denied by a last gasp header by defender Danny Grannon.
Town were level three minutes into the second half when striker Gavin Salmon was felled in the box, only for the same player to get up and dispatch the penalty beneath Sanna and into the net. Three minuets later, Salmon latched onto a throughball, held off his defender and unfortunately placed his shot wide of the upright, Town were now, arguably the better side and Corrigan was next to go close, shooting too close to Sanna once again. The key period in the game occured soon after, firstly Town had, what looked like a perfectly good goal ruled out, as Salmon’s square ball, was cleared by the Bay defender, only to rebound in off the on-rushing Tony Evans, only to see the linesman’s flag raised for offside. Two minutes later, Bay were ahead, Noone finishing clinically past Pritchard with an angled drive.
In a game which had now opened up, Bay substitute Joe O’Sullivan placed his free kick narrowly over the bar. Salmon almost doubled his and Town’s tally soon after when his angled lob, left Sanna flat footed but smacked away to safety off the top off the crossbar.
Town continued to search for a deserved equaliser and levelled with almost the last kick of the game, when Corrigan perfectly flighted home a free kick into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
