Warning over rogue white line painter

OWNERS of commercial properties at Warrington are being warned of a trader offering to paint white lines outside their premises.
The trader called at a town centre church and claimed that he had paint left over after painting white lines for the borough council.
A representative from the church agreed to have lines painted in their car park.
The trader asked for £2,250 for the work, but this was reduced by negotiation to £1,600.
This equates to approximately £4.50 per metre – but the council charges only 40p per metre.
Trading standards officer Edwina Greenwood said: “We want to make it clear that this trader has not done any work for the council. If anyone is approached by a trader who claims to be affiliated with the council, or have been approached by traders offering to paint lines at their property, we would urge them to contact Trading Standards on 08454 040506.”
Laws to protect householders that require a seven day cooling off period do not apply to commercial premises, however there are a number of laws that do apply in these circumstances.
