Half Marathon attracts 1,600

ORGANISERS of the second New Balance English Half Marathon are working hard to minimise disruption to residents when the event takes place on Sunday, October 4.
Starting from Victoria Park at 9am, the runners will follow a course south through Grappenhall, down to Appleton Thorn and back up to the park via Stockton Heath.
The route is slightly different to last year’s inaugural race. Organisers say a series of road closures and diversions will take place in the south of the borough to ensure runners’ safety. A rolling programme of road re-openings should reduce the impact for drivers, residents and the community.
One of the organisers Mike James said: “We have been and continue to work with the council, police, ambulance and the fire services on road closures and diversions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for runners, spectators and local residents.
“Some disruption is inevitable but we really are trying hard to keep this to minimum for local residents.”
More than 1,600 runners from the UK and abroad have already signed up for this race. Further information about the event is available on www.english-half.co.uk
