A WARRINGTON mortuary technician has won an award for the highest marks in the Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology this year.
Chris Barlow, 20, (pictured) of Warrington Hospital, won the Heggie Award for his studies.
His work for the award included two years of study and a further two years of practical experience in subjects such as anatomy, physiology and pathological disease.
Chris studied at Hull Royal Infirmary for his course. He has been working for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 18 months and was the youngest qualified technician in the country at 17.
He started training to become a mortuary technician at the age of 16 at the Royal in Liverpool. The job runs in the family with his dad being a full time locum.
Chris said: “Every day is different in my role and I enjoy that, you can never plan for anything. It is an unusual role to want to pursue, but it interests me and there is a sense of satisfaction in being able to help the families of the deceased, by ensuring that everything runs smoothly to take the stress out of a very sad time.”
He will receive the award at a ceremony held at the Royal Society of Public Health in London on September 22.
