Poultry die in allotments blaze

FIRE service experts are investigating the cause of a blaze which caused serious damage to four sheds on an allotment site at Warrington.
Six chickens and two ducks died in the blaze off Longshaw Street, Bewsey and members of the public had to be evacuated to a safe distance because of the risk of an explosion involving two butane gas cylinders discovered in one of the sheds.
Fire crews from Warrington and Birchwood went to the scene after reports of a shed on fire.
In fact, four sheds were ablaze.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with hose reel jets and also used a ground monitor to enable a continuous jet of water to be sprayed over the area
