Students to get green-fingered

STUDENTS at Warrington are being encouraged to get green fingered on a new sustainable project.
They will soon be planting a range of herbs and vegetables in a new raised bed, presented to them by the Long Lane Garden Centre charity, which provides supported employment and training for adults with learning difficulties.
Simon Hardcastle, Phil Roberts and David Hunter from the garden centre visited Priestley College to install the raised bed and meet with students who will soon be using it.
The links in well with the college’s policy for sustainable projects on campus, with the compost and fertiliser for the bed being produced by an in-house wormery.
Tutor Cath Stanley who has led on the initiative said: “We were delighted to work with the Long Lane Garden Centre on this and look forward to taking delivery of more raised beds in the future.
“Getting students involved in growing their own food will be a rewarding experience as it will give them not only a sense of achievement but also an idea and concept of how they may be able to do the same thing at home.”

  1. What a great idea, if only my daughter hadn’t just left Priestley, after taking her exams last month, she could have been bring home some tips for our garden.

She thinks gardens are only for sun bathing in but hopefully she’ll be cutting the grass today.

I’ll be hiding indoors away from the hay fever.
