Council u-turn on the buses!

WARRINGTON Borough Council will now run a bus service this Sunday

evening to assist Warrington Wolves’ fans travelling to the game against

Leeds.
Earlier this week Wolves’ Chairman Steven Broomhead hit out at the council for withdrawing their evening services at short notice, with nearly half of the club’s supporters regular bus users.
But now following talks between the council and the club it has been decided to run six special services on Sunday evening, to ensure fans are not stranded after the game.
Cllr Ian Marks, leader of the council, said:“To show our support for the team and the excellent season they are having, bus services will be provided to get fans home after the match.
“We have been in discussions about additional bus services for this fixture since we found out that the kick-off had been put back so the match can be broadcast on Sky.
“Our transport team and Warrington Borough Transport have put their heads together and come up with a scheme to cater for fans’ needs. Providing additional services on a Sunday evening for special occasions any time in the year remains an option for us.”
Wolves Chief Executive Andy Gatcliffe said: “The club would like to thank Warrington Borough Council and also Warrington Borough Transport for their support in providing buses this Sunday evening following our game against Leeds. We are absolutely delighted that there will be some bus services for fans on this occasion.
“Looking forward the club are scheduled to meet next week with representatives from both the above partners to discuss and hopefully find a solution to the fans’ concerns in buses not being available at the time required after a Sunday game 3pm kick-off. More advice on this will be available soon.”
Charlie Shannon, director of Warrington Borough Transport, said:“We have assessed our network and I am pleased to say that, under private hire arrangements, we are able to provide a set number of bus services for this one off fixture on Sunday. Buses will be heading to the main areas of the borough.”

  1. Excellent news and thanks WBC for actually listening and acting on the concerns raised by the club and supporters. As always with me tho there is a BUT….. at such short notice how will people know that there are temp busses on (only one for each area) and how will they know where to get them from as they are not going from the bus station. I guess there will be an announcement made in the statiun to that effect for those who still have no idea ?!? Another question… once the particular bus is full and heads off as the news report says will it go back for any other people who couldn’t get on or is it just one trip only. Still better than nothing and credit where credits due they have made an effort 🙂 🙂
