Help for breastfeeding mums

A NEW law which offers more protection to mums who want to breastfeed in public has been welcomed by Warrington health workers.
The new Equality Act 2010 will include a section emphasising that is unlawful to prevent a woman from breastfeeding in public.
Avril Smith, NHS Warrington’s community service unit infant feeding co-ordinator, welcomed the act.
She said: “Breastfeeding can bring many benefits to both mother and baby. It provides all the nutrients needed for the first six months of life, and continues to benefit your baby along with solid food for many months.”
Newly opened Café Encounter in Birchwood welcomes the change and is already actively promoting the cafe as a breastfeeding-friendly zone.
Manager Chris Carroll said: “Café Encounter invites women to breastfeed whilst relaxing and having a drink, eating or whilst chatting with friends. I fully support encouraging women to breastfeed in public and hope other public business and public places will follow suit.”

  1. Where does the equality act come into it? I’m a bloke and never had to breastfeed a baby in public……. who or what are these breastfeeding women trying to be equal with exactly?
