THE Mayor of Warrington is set to play a key role in uniting communities in the town by hosting his very own “Big Lunch” as part of a nationwide campaign to draw local people closer.
Plans are underway for the day to take place in Walton Hall Gardens from noon to 4pm on Sunday July 18, with similar events happening throughout the county and beyond.
The aim of The Big Lunch is to bring communities together to appreciate locally grown or produced food or drink. All events are free and everyone is welcome to take part.
Marissa Hankinson, fundraiser for Warrington Grassroots – the Mayor’s chosen charity – said: “We are delighted the Mayor has chosen community for his theme for this year.
“The Big Lunch is a great reason to bring the community together. We have the most enthusiastic community in Warrington and there’s no better reason to sit down together and talk with old friends and meet new ones over a nice lunch. So I hope you will join Warrington Grassroots and Mayor John Joyce” (pictured).
Last year, the first Big Lunch saw the best part of a million people come together nationally, hosting events ranging from simple back garden barbecues to full-on street parties with entertainment, games, music and bunting.
