AS summer finally shows some signs of heating up, NHS Warrington has issued advice on how to look after yourself and others during hot weather.
Hot weather brings health risks, especially for those with heart, respiratory and serious health problems, as the heat can make these conditions worse. Babies and young children are also especially at risk.
Rebecca Knight, head of emergency planning at NHS Warrington, said: “The key thing to remember in a heat wave is to keep yourself cool – keep out of the sun, wear light clothing, have plenty of cool drinks – avoiding alcohol and caffeine – and seek advice from your GP, a pharmacist or NHS Direct if you have any concerns. If you know anyone who is likely to be at risk during a heatwave, help them get the advice and support they need.”
Helpful leaflets have been distributed to community outlets such as local libraries and GP surgeries. They contain tips on keeping cool, who is at risk and what to do in an emergency. Community nurses and social care professionals will also be giving this leaflet out to th vulnerable patients.
