Cuts will cause hardship – MP

GOVERNMENT spending cuts will cause real hardship to families in Warrington and risk the town’s future prosperity according to MP Helen Jones.
The Government is to phase out the Child Trust Fund and the Future Jobs Fund over the next 12 months – and the Warrington North MP says this will have a “devastating effect” on people in her constituency.
She said: The cuts will harm people on low and modest incomes the most – those who go out and work, often for low wages.
“The Future Jobs Fund was working here in Warrington, helping young people get jobs which needed doing and acquire skills at the same time. There are over 700 young people out of work in my constituency who Labour was committed to helping. Now they will be condemned to life on the dole.
“The Child Trust Fund provided a bit of capital for young people who would otherwise have nothing. Last year over 6,000 new accounts were opened for babies born in Warrington North. The scheme encouraged saving and made a real difference for families on low incomes.
“A bit of money when they reached the age of 18 could help young people get driving lessons to make them more employable, or buy tools for their apprenticeships.
“When Labour warned that the Child Trust Fund could be scrapped we were accused of ‘scaremongering’. Sadly, that prediction has proved only too true.
“These cuts are only the tip of the iceberg yet they are already damaging the future prospects of our young people. Together with the decision not to proceed with improvements to Bank Quay railway station, they are mortgaging the town’s future.
“Yet we have heard not a peep from the Tories and Lib Dems who claim to stand up for our town. Not surprising when it is their government causing the damage. “

  1. It just shows how callous these people are when they can ignore the plight that “THEIR” Party has caused, and then criticises the others for having to make hard decisions to put things right. Jones has a short memory, conveniently forgetting the years that her party were in office in warrington. That was when the town became a mess. The present encumbents are not making things any better either.

Perhaps some constructive comments might be more helpful to get the town and country back on its feet.

ALL politicians should hang their heads in shame for this finacial shambles.
