WARRINGTON Wizards gained a magnificent 40-24 victory over Kippax Knights in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National on Saturday afternoon at Wilderspool Stadium in a fantastic encounter to move into second place in the league table.
The Wizards started poorly and trailed 16-0 midway through the first half and were still behind 22-12 at the break but a stunning second half performance saw them run out
deserved winners.
Tries for the Wizards were scored by Ian Stephenson three, Matt Wilson two, Steve McDermott one and Nick Braide one. Warren Ayres added six conversions.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Wizards hat trick star Ian Stephenson. He was very well supported by new signings Ryan Millington and Steve McDermott on their debuts after joining from Halton Simms Cross and also Matt Wilson who scorched over for two invaluable tries in his first appearance of the season.
The Wizards travel to Featherstone Lions next Saturday. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 11.15am. Please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
After the game Assistant Coach Mike Grady was very pleased with the result. He said, “We started poorly but our second half performance was top class. We had a few words at half time about what we was doing wrong and the lads went out and turned the game round. We worked on improving our defence and discipline and we did do that although we know we can still get better in both departments.”
