Row over Green Belt recycling plant

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to visit a waste recycling centre where expansion proposals have caused a storm of protest.
They want to inspect the ADS Recycling site in Camsley Lane, Lymm before deciding if the scheme can go ahead.
The company want to build two industrial steel frame buildings, one for use as a waste reception area and the other to provide an additional waste picking station.
But more than 20 nearby residents have objected, along with three members of the borough council, Ian Marks, Sheila Woodyatt and Elaine Welborn.
Objections have also been received from Lymm Parish Council and Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council
Council planning officers say the development will increase the recycling of materials and so reduce the need for landfill.
Originally the site was used for processing animal carcasses but in 1992 it was given permission to recycle inert waste and for haulage and in 2001 permission was granted for installation of a waste picking conveyor.
Objectors claim the development would be inappropriate in the Green Belt, would cause noise, smells, dust, vermin and loss of rural outlook.
They also believe there will be increased traffic hazards and burning of materials on site and that the development would be detrimental to the nearby Trans Pennine Trail.
Planning officers say many of the objections relate to the existing site and that the proposals would actually improve the situation.
They say there would be no increase in the amount of material processed and no increase in traffic movement.
